I was lucky enough to attend the Geelong Cup with my sister
Finding Femme today. Like my previous racing events (read about it
here and
here) I was again in search of an outfit at the last minute. I know, what is it with me and racing events?
This event I had more barriers than usual to an outfit. Firstly, having recently had a baby I still don’t fit into my non-maternity wardrobe. I am still rocking a jelly-belly and the giganta-boobs AND I need something that’s nursing friendly.
I spent yesterday at the shops and found sweet NOTHING! I even did a late night visit to KMART in search of ANYTHING!! Anyhow I ended up throwing together this outfit from things already in my wardrobe. The original shirt I planned to wear was quite delicate and tore along a seam while I was changing (urgh!). The pants were a post shopping regret from years ago and I had actually never worn them. The hat is from my late grandmother.
What I wore was not relevant as any attention was placed firmly on the pram. I had a laugh with my sister when we arrived as only a few years ago I would never have dreamt of going to the races and absolutely never, ever, ever while taking a baby in tow. However my sister needed an assistant for the day and I was able to assist even if it meant a few awkward moments.
I fed baby on arrival in the car park knowing that feeding on location would be awkward when I had to unzip my pants at the back just to feed. I accidentally forgot to fix them when getting the pram out of the car but no one seemed to notice. Bubba woke for a moment in the marquee and I had a massive anxiety attack but after a small jiggle of the pram he went straight back to sleep and slept the entire time we were there, woo-bloody-hoo!! The food was also amazing, and having a baby in tow meant the wait staff took pity on me and continued a constant stream of food to where I was sitting. I may or may-not have had four servings of thai chicken curry… Side note there was nothing non-alcoholic to drink other than water and soft drink which I found a little frustrating.
We nearly ran out of petrol on the way home. We stopped in a little town to fill up with petrol and get takeaway dim sims (life as a socialite mummy is all glamour!). I still had an amazing day with my sis and loved seeing all the stunning outfits worn trackside. You can see more pictures from the day on her blog
