The Wardrobe Clear Out

Since arriving home from our recent overseas trip I decided to purge my wardrobe of anything I hadn’t worn in a long time. I’m not sure if I was inspired from staying apartments that were clean and tidy and not cluttered with all the things you seem to collect in life, or if it was from living with the limited wardrobe in my suitcase. Either way, within days of coming home I had a huge pile of clothing thrown in a corner in preparation to go to the local op shop.

My Mum, who travelled with us, caught the same bug and she did a large wardrobe clear out too. The Captain however joked that I would be back to rummage through the pile of clothes and salvage items I would later decide I wanted. His comment was true and a day later when I needed to do some painting I rummaged through and found some clothes to wear.

The reality is that most of the clothes in my wardrobe I haven’t worn since before I was pregnant with Reuben and now I no longer fit into them. I decided there was no point holding on to things in the hope they may one day fit again. When Mum came over this weekend we packed the clothes into bags and she questioned me as to why I wanted to throw certain items away. Many of the items were lovely and in very good condition. As if getting rid of clothes couldn’t get ore difficult without a second person getting me to rethink my choice. I really had to justify to myself that they would remain sitting in my wardrobe unused so it’s best they go to someone who will use them.

The coat in today’s post was saved from my purge. The coat is from Gasp, and was purchased over a decade ago. At the time the store made pretty evening dresses that were more than I could afford and were popular with teens and young adults. In hindsight I realize how tacky they were.

Lucky I purchased a coat and not a dress. It goes to show when you buy a classic and good quality item you can keep wearing it years later!

Now that the wardrobe is cleared out I need to decide what to clear out next. Any ideas?
